Film selection

6th edition, 10th – 14th June 2026

The Vox cinema, in the heart of Chamonix, is the venue for all film screenings. Matinées start at 5pm, and film evenings at 8.30pm.

The festival is committed to inclusion and strives towards making the mountains and mountain stories accessible to everyone. To this end, the majority of our films are screened with subtitles for the hard of hearing.

Please note that only theatre 2 is wheelchair accessible.

Films in competition

The best of the mountains

The films in competition were whittled down from over 170 films submitted to 17 films by our selection committee, with several world and french premières in the programme. Filmmakers and athletes will be on hand during the screenings to share their adventures and inspirations.

Film debates

A film and panel discussion at 5pm

Our matinée sessions feature a film screening followed by a panel discussion. For the 2026 series we have two ‘film and book’ events with authors and filmmakers sharing which came first – the book or the film. And continuing our discussions around key topics in the outdoor community, films and panel discussion around inclusivity in the outdoors.

Film selection criteria

Films screened at the Chamonix Film Festival are selected from a large number of submissions. A team of film and mountain professionals choose our finalists. The film selection criteria reflect the festival’s DNA.

    • Mountains should be a character in the film, and not just scenery.
    • The story should convey mountain values: respect for the environment, teamwork, commitment, solidarity, etc.
    • The film should convey mountain culture, history and heritage.
    • The story should aim to evoke the powerful emotions inherent to time spent in the mountains.
    • Mountaineering is symbolic of mountain exploration, but other non-mechanical sports (skiing, trekking, paragliding, trail running) also embody this spirit of exploration and adventure and are welcome.
