La Fleur et Le Glacier
Not in competition
Summary
High above La Grave in the Alps, a small flower clinging to the rock, the Dauphiné androsace, could change the fate of a millennia-old glacier. Protected by law, this extremely rare species has emerged at the heart of a controversial cable car project, sparking an unprecedented battle between industrialists, elected officials, residents, and scientists.
In this snow-covered region, where development is increasing as glaciers melt, a resistance movement is taking shape, led by a citizens’ collective and supported by botanists, glaciologists, and ecologists. Together, they are defending a different future for our mountains—and reminding us that sometimes, in the face of concrete, it is a flower that can stop everything.
