Summary
In February 2024, Lise Billon, Fanny Schmutz, and Maud Vanpoulle made the first female ascent of the Compressor Route on Cerro Torre in Patagonia, a route that earned legendary status after Italian climber Cesare Maestri made the notorious ‘fake’ first ascent in the 1950s. Etching their own episode of climbing history into this iconic peak, the trio combine technical skill with unwavering camaraderie, and challenge traditional notions of (male) mountain heroism in the process.
