La rose du mont Blanc

Summary

Stéphane Dan, known as Fanfan, is a high mountain guide. Based in Le Tour, in the Chamonix valley, he spends most of his time in the mountains with clients, his friends, running at altitude or on skis…

For many years, he has devoted a good part of the summer and early fall season to the quest for alpine minerals, true treasures of the Mont Blanc massif. More than a job, it is a passion that he shares with his family. The quest for mountain treasures is above all a declaration of love for the Mont Blanc summits. This film follows him for two years, from one season to the next, in order to discover what is hidden behind the evocative name of “cristallier”.

The choice of the festival

Before mountaineering, there were the crystal makers. Balmat, the first to climb Mont Blanc, was one of them. These treasure hunters were the only ones who dared to venture beyond the “glaciers”, towards the granite walls where the crystal ovens are nestled. Diving into the world of modern crystal makers is a journey back in time, to the origins of the adventure, to the source of the fascination for the high mountains.
