Screening on Friday 11 Jun – 7:00 PM

In October 2019, Benjamin Védrines and Nicolas Jean embark on an expedition to Chamlang, a 7331 m summit, south of Everest. Their goal: the never climbed North Pillar, one of the current challenges for Himalayan climbers. Their expedition is ultra-light, with little equipment, no comfortable base camp, pure “alpine style”. During their first attempt on the pillar, they are confronted with the choice of giving up. There followed a period of doubt until they crossed paths with another expedition led by Mathis Dumas and Hervé Barmasse, whose presence motivated them to return to the summit by another route, also new. Their ascent will then become epic… A magnificent testimony of what is today the committed himalayism.

The choice of the festival

The young guard of mountaineering facing one of the Himalayan challenges of the moment. This expedition film invites us to share the experience of two mountaineers, among the best of their generation. Their discoveries, their questioning and their dazzlement. The glaciologist and mountaineer Patrick Wagnon, a great connoisseur of alpine style in the Himalayas, intervenes as a Mentor and offers a valuable insight into the questions raised by contemporary mountaineering on these mountains. The commitment, the renunciation, the means used and the impact on a fragile environment. A pure expedition film that takes us on board and makes us think more.
